    • write your own proposal choosing one of the options on p. 138 ex. 10.

Unit 4

16th March

  • Homework correction: p. 102, ex. 1-4-5.
  • What's on your mind? vocabulary and discussion.
  • Collocations and idioms.
  • Communication: sharing opinions.
  • Can technology solve our big problems? TED Talk. Sentence completion.
  • Homework: Watch the video again and answer the comprehension questions. Also, complete exercises 2 and 3 from the book (pages 108, 109) from the text Moonstruck. (The previous links gives you the photocopied text in colour, not black and white, so you can make out the highlighted words).





24th February

  • Homework correction: find the keys of the activities from page 85 to 87 here.
  • Listening practice: Interview with Derek Allen.
  • Writing: a report.
  • Homework: Progress Check Module 2 (answer keys here); exam practice; write your own report following the instructions of exercise 10 in page 92.


22nd February


  • Correcting the homework: p. 84, do the exercises 1, 2 and 3. You can find here the answer keys.
  • "Grown-ups!". Practising the passive with verb followed by the to infinitive (allowed, warned, adviced...).
  • Discussion on animals and pets.
  • Short film: The Emancipation of Prince, and filling in the gaps of the transcript.
  • Homework: p. 86 - 87, ex. 7, 8 and 9.



17th February
  • Listening exam practice: gap filling.
  • Speaking practice with peer assessment.
  • The passive voice.
  • Homework: p. 84, do the exercises 1, 2 and 3.



Unit 3

11th December

  • Listening comprehension activities on page 60. You can find the audios here and here, in case you want to listen again.
  • Idioms related to happiness and unhappiness on page 58; and idioms related to family.
  • Arguments: expressions used for arguing. Watching a fragment of a video about a couple arguing and writing a short dialogue for the scene. Watching a short movie to identify some of these expressions used and the intonation.
  • Homework: Read the text Confidence lab on page 62-63, and complete exercises 2 and 3.



9th December

  • Listening activity: you can hear again here (track and activity).
  • "Soulmates" lesson: discussing, watching a short movie to extract information and doing a test. You can watch the movie again and take the test on its website.
  • "A partner for life?" Reading a short text about divorce, looking at some idiomatic expressions and discuss a divorce.
  • Homework: p. 58, Collocations and Fixed Phrases.


2nd December

  • Correcting Reading on pages 54-55, and exercise c), 2 Vocabulary Practice and 3 Text analysis.
  • First impressions and families.
  • Stereotypes with Kiran.
  • Homework: p. 57, ex. 4-5.


30th November

  • Lead-in of unit 3. Relationships and the influence they have on us.
  • Grandparents: short film Vovô.
  • Homework: Reading on pages 54-55, and exercise c), 2 Vocabulary Practice and 3 Text analysis. Watch out! Students with the old edition book should use the photocopies given.



25th November

  • Correcting the homework.
  • Vocabulary cards for revision.
  • Homework: Progress Check Module 1 on pages 47 to 49.


23d november

  • Speaking: "What bugs me".
  • Fixed phrases with at.
  • Phrasal verbs.
  • Key word transformations.
  • Listening on page 34.
  • Homework: key word transformations on page 40; exercises 9 and 10 on page 41.


20th November

  • Correcting the homework: p. 44 ex. 7A, p. 45 ex. 10.
  • Idioms: p. 32 with images.
  • Work with grammar: present tenses.
  • Annoying habits (present continuous) in use: listening practice with How I met your mother.
  • Homework: write a review using the instructions on p. 44 ex. 6, or the ones on p. 46 ex. 46. You can write about a movie or a book. Decide which task you want to do. 



18th November

  • Reading a movie review: order a jumbled text, analysis of its characteristics, work on lexis.
  • Vocabulary: p.42 ex. 1.
  • Speaking: talk about a book/movie you loved.
  • Homework: p. 44 ex. 7A, p. 45 ex. 10.



16th November

  • Correcting the homework (Reading on pages 36, 37, completing the gaps with the correct paragraphs missing in the text.).
  • Vocabulary practice on page 37.
  • Gradable and ungradable adjectives with grading and non-grading adverbs. Presentation and activities for practising.
  • Homework: p. 31, do the exercise 4.



11th November

  • Writing a brochure for a travel agency to sell a package holiday, using the collocations worked in class.
  • Language assistant: American/British vocabulary. Taboo game.
  • Homework: Reading on pages 36, 37, completing the gaps with the correct paragraphs missing in the text.


9th November

  • Reading The Book of the Century.
  • Language focus: activities 1 a), 2 a) (page 30), and 6 a) (page 32).
  • Vocabulary activity: "Colourful collocations".


6th November

  • Volunteering for speaking practice.
  • Word formation, p. 20.
  • Introduction of the unit. Group-work discussion. Reading a poem, and watching a short film about it.
  • Homework: read the text The Book of the Century, on page 28 and do the multiple choice activity d).




Unit 1
